Drawing on their experience and know-how in Suncare nutricosmetics, Arkopharma Laboratories have developed an innovative formula since the diversity of Carotenoids present in the formula allows for a more optimal preparation than using Beta-carotene alone. Phytoperine® also optimises the bioavailability of Betacarotene.
Lycopene belongs to the carotenoid family and is a pigment naturally present in tomatoes and watermelons. It is an antioxidant that helps protect cells from oxidative stress and free radicals. It wasn't until the end of the 19th century that a researcher called Harsten separated lycopene from tomatoes, and it wasn't until the middle of the 20th century that lycopene's properties were identified, and until the end of the 1990s that they became common knowledge1.
Lutein and zeaxanthin belong to the family of carotenoids, which are lipophilic plant pigments responsible for the yellow and red colours found in nature, such as fruit, vegetables, flowers and autumn leaves. For example, the bright yellow colour of corn is due in part to lutein2.
Beta-carotene is the best-known compound in the carotenoid group. As a pigment, it makes flowers more attractive to insects, and is best known for its presence in certain fruits and vegetables such as carrots, mangoes and apricots3..
Piperine (phytoperine) increases the bioavailability of betacarotene. Black pepper (family Piperaceae) is one of the most widely used spices in the world, well known for its pungent compound, piperine. Piperine is the main active ingredient in pepper4.
Plant oils: Plus carotenoids of plant origin, Phytobronz® contains plant oils which are used to help preserve the skin's elasticity and suppleness, for sublimated skin:
Borage oil(Borago officinalis L.): Borage is a Mediterranean plant which was not used for cosmetics when it was discovered in the Middle Ages5. It is now used for its various Skin-related properties, in particular to restore suppleness and elasticity.
Argan oil(Argania spinosa (L.)): the seeds of the argan tree, which grows in southern Morocco, are used to produce argan oil. The name Argan comes from a small Moroccan village called "Argana". This oil is traditionally used for skin care in the nutricosmetics sector, as it has nourishing properties and restores suppleness to the skin.
Sesame Oil(Sesamum indicum L.): Sesame is a member of the oilseed family and comes from Asia. Particularly popular in the Middle East, sesame is widely used in cooking. It is also used in the form of oil in nutricosmetics, as it has interesting properties such as making the skin supple.
Vitamins and Minerals :
Selenium (Se): Selenium acts as an antioxidant.
Copper (Cu): contributes to skin pigmentation.
Vitamin A: helps to keep skin healthy
Vitamin E: helps protect the Skin from oxidative stress induced by UV rays. It is recognised as an essential nutritional element for L'Homme, and has anti-oxidant properties.
