Collagen is a fibrous protein naturally present in the skin. It is the main component of the skin, ensuring its firmness and elasticity. Collagen accounts for 80% of the weight of connective tissue. Often compared to a framework, Collagen plays an essential role in ensuring the cohesion, elasticity, mechanical resistance and regeneration of the body's tissues. It is present in the Skin, joints, bones and tendons.
Over the years, Collagen production tends to decline, with visible consequences for the quality of the skin and joints. After the age of 25, the rate of decline in Collagen synthesis is around 1.5% per year. By the age of 45, collagen levels may have fallen by as much as 30%.
After the age of 45, collagen renewal decreases significantly, so that there is less of it in the dermis. This phenomenon, which intensifies with age, causes the skin to become thinner, the Face loses tone and skin cracks appear: wrinkles.
