Manuka honey comes from New Zealand and only from New Zealand. It is in this magnificent country, still largely unspoilt, that this honey is harvested. Manuka is a small shrub related to the Australian Tea tree, Melaleuca alternifolia. The anti-microbial properties of the tea tree are well established, and its essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy.
Thanks to the flowers foraged by bees, manuka honey is very special, both in terms of its taste and its protective properties. Manuka honey contains a protective and Anticeptics factor that is far superior to all other honeys.
This factor, known as UMF, varies on a scale from 12 to 20 in general. The higher the UMF, the richer manuka honey is in active ingredients. Manuka honey is mainly used as a preventive or curative treatment, both internally and on the skin.
