Heather: the Bach flower that sticks around
Heather Bach flowers grow on heather, a name that actually refers to more than 800 species of plant. The flowers, which range in colour from white and violet to pink and red, are grouped in clusters along the stems. They appear in July, and remain colourful and vibrant until November. After that, although their colour may turn brown, they cling to the plant over the Winter months, resisting cold and rain.
Heather is a small shrub that never grows taller than a metre, and is particularly fond of siliceous soils. Although they are often found in sunny locations, they are also known to spread over moorland, peat bogs and pine forests. They can therefore easily grow in poor soil, while remaining dense and flowering. Very common in France, heather is associated with many myths and superstitions, always playing a positive and protective role.
