Originally from Asia, Vetiver is grown in India, Haiti, Indonesia, Reunion Island... and harvested by hand. As Haiti is the world's leading producer of Vetiver for perfumery and aromatherapy, Puressentiel naturally chose this country to produce its essential oil, as Haitian Vetiver has a very high quality standard. Also known as Chrysopogon zizanioides in Latin, this plant is very resistant and helps to protect the soil and the Environment from erosion.
Vetiver Essential Oil is yellow to brown in colour and has a woody, leathery, ambery, earthy, powerful, deep and persistent fragrance with notes of Sandalwood. This particularly thick and viscous essential oil requires the bottle to be tilted between 120° and 150° to flow, as even then it can take some time to sink.
It is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh roots. Distillation takes between 10 and 20 hours. To guarantee maximum quality and fragrance, distillation must be carried out immediately after baling.
This essential oil is ideal for creating relaxing, aphrodisiac massages with an enchanting fragrance. It is also often used in skin and Capillary care products for its beneficial effects on the skin and hair.
Vetiver Essential Oil is mainly composed of sesquiterpene alcohols (including Isovalencenol and Khusimol) and also contains sesquiterpene ketones (including α- and β-vetivones).
